Love 1946

It was warm outside. Jay was running through the woods as if he would never give up. He had come all the to the heart of the forest. This 15 year old's friends had told him about this new firebird which they had witnessed (apparently) , which he later realized didnt exist (obviously). He was rummaging through the bushes, tired and hungry.Suddenly he heard some screams,"Help! someone please help me!!" He looked around but saw no one. He ran uphill, through a small thicket and into a clearing.

That was when he saw her.

Sitting on a small hill, or rather a slightly raised piece of land, was a fair girl ( a "gori" as mentioned in Devanagari slang). She wore silk dress, rich in texture and pink in color, which indicated that she was British. Jay wanted to back off there itself, but then something suddenly made him freeze in his tracks...something so beautiful he couldn't forget all his life.

Her eyes.

Light blue in color, the eyes were so intense and so deep that one could sit and write a book on them and never tire out. Yes, they were watery and red because of the weeping, but underneath all the fancy clothes and the British accent, Jay could only feel himself to be lost in those warm ocean like eyes.

He ran up to her and asked her "what happened ?" .Being the son of the zamindar, he knew enough English to converse with a British. She looked up at him with those amazing eyes and replied "Im lost. Can you help me please?" .Soon they were walking through the woods together.
Discussing various things. War, peace, hate, etc. They became friends very fast. After many more secret meetings in the forest, they realized they had much more than war, hatred and peace.Anne Fletcher was amazing.

Love.

Jay's parents were furious at this, and so were Anne's. India was at the brink of chasing the British away from her land, and at such a time public discovery of Jay and Anne's love would be taken as betrayal. His father's position would be ruined.

The last time they met, Anne and Jay looked into each others eyes, not knowing what to say. Anne was leaving. All of the British were. Jay cried for weeks together. So did Anne.

Jay's parents forced him to get married to another Zamindar's daughter. They had a son. Soon he had completed his studies and wanted to go abroad to study further.

That day, Jay got a call from his son. He said ," Dad I want to get married ."

"Who is the girl?"

"Margaret"

"Thats all you know about her? Who are her parents? What do they do?"

"Well, her father is an Officer in the British Military, Major Charles Brown. Her mother is ..um..hold on. ..(in the background "whats her name sweetheart?") ..oh yeah, her mother is a teacher in a primary school. Her name is Anne Fletcher Brown.
